“Another sonic masterpiece that is pushing his more than deserved efforts into the big leagues”
“Severance infuses the sounds of pop and synth-pop to create this mesmerising array of pieces”
Robert O’Connor is striking while the iron is hot with the release of his new single “Summer Is Waiting”, a chill-out anthem ready-made for Ibiza sunsets at Café Del Mar.
The Dublin artist has never been in a better position. His latest EP ‘Severance’, released last October, has just surpassed 100,000 streams on Spotify, receiving widespread critical acclaim upon its release.
Retro Pop said: “Severance showcases his superb songwriting and sees him finally find his sound”, while RGM pronounced the EP “a sonic masterpiece that is pushing his more than deserved efforts into the big leagues”.
“Summer Is Waiting” sees Robert reunite with ‘Severance’ producer Gareth Shortland, who has worked with pop greats such as Sophie Ellis Bextor, Steps and Erasure. The pair were busy crafting the follow-up when Robert wrote a new song that seemed time-sensitive, resulting in a release that’s hot off the mixing desk.
“I had two conversations with two friends in a 24-hour period. Everyone was feeling a bit down in the dumps, and I wanted to say to them ‘summer’s right round the corner, everything will seem better when the sun is shining’, so in a way it’s my seasonal affective disorder anthem!” Robert says.
On the contrary, Robert has never felt stronger as an artist. Having landed an official ‘This Is Robert O’Connor’ playlist on Spotify, his cult following is growing by the day, resulting in an impressive ten consecutive Top 5 hits on the LGBTQ Music Chart and an audience that eagerly awaits his next music move.
“Summer Is Waiting” hits streaming services on June 2.
